Player Races

In Starfinder, the word “race” usually refers to an intelligent, self-aware species whose members can be considered characters rather than simple monsters.

The Starfinder Society is a Pact Worlds organization, and so its ranks are largely formed from members of Pact World species who routinely take to the stars. The recent alliance with the Veskarium has expanded its ranks to include some of their member species as well.

The following are permitted player races you can choose from. Unless otherwise noted, information can be found in the Core Rulebook. Be sure to check the Character Operations Manual for alternate racial traits for Core Races, Gnomes, and Half-Orcs. Near Space also has alternate racial traits for Vesk, Skittermanders, Damais, and Osharus)

All Core Starfinder Core Races:
(These are the most common in the Pact Worlds)

  • ANDROIDS: Androids are artificial creatures with both biological and mechanical elements, originally created by humanity as servants and now free to chart their own destiny among the stars.
  • HUMANS: Found nearly anywhere in the Pact Worlds, humans have spread far since the disappearance of their home world of Golarion. They are known for their curiosity, tenacity, and adaptability.
  • KASATHAS: An ancient four-armed race from a distant star system, kasathas are staunch traditionalists with customs that make them seem wise and mysterious to other races.
  • LASHUNTAS: Lashuntas are naturally gifted psychics, divided into two subraces: one tall and lean, the other short and powerful. Both are compelling to other races and dedicated to scholarship and self-perfection.
  • SHIRRENS: Once part of a terrifying hive-mind that devoured all in its path, the insectile shirrens mutated and broke away to become independent but community-minded individuals addicted to the freedom of choice.
  • VESK: Devoted to conquest and dominance, the reptilian vesk only recently ended their long war with the other races of the Pact Worlds, and many still distrust them despite their sense of honor and their utility in combat.
  • YSOKI: Passionate and scrappy, the ratlike ysoki are experts at getting both into and out of trouble. They let their love of technology, exploration, and adventure carry them throughout the galaxy.

Pathfinder Legacy Races:
(Less-common in the Pact Worlds)

  • Half-Elves
  • Half-Orcs
  • Halflings
  • Gnomes
